Zelda Omega Alderman Parnell, 94, of Austinville, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Parnell was born in Carroll County on January 6, 1917 to the late Burtron and Huldah McGrady Alderman. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Arthur Parnell; daughter Ella Geraldine Parnell; sisters Fay Dalton, Izona Williams, and Oleta Gravely; and brother Oden Alderman and Orby Alderman. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law Stella Christene Parnell and Juanita and Donald Flanagan all of Austinville; sisters Marie Wheeling of Richmond, Nellie Sheppard of Pulaski, Docibell Newman of Austinville, and Frieda Gallimore of Galax; and brother and sister-in-law Maynard and Eileen Alderman of Austinville.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Russell Payne and Rev. Harvey Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in the Parnell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until service time.
