Wilmer Rush Jenkins, 79, of Hillsville passed away at New River Valley Medical Center on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edgar and Mattie Lenora Horton Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Polly Jenkins of the home; son and daughter in-law, Steve and Linda Jenkins of Hillsville; daughter, Sandra Gaye Welch of Woodlawn; granddaughter and spouse, Lauren Nicole and Scott Gunnell-Beck; grandson Dustin Kyle Jenkins; great granddaughter, Evangeline Gunnell-Beck; sister, Helen J. Alderman of Hillsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Norman Goad and Rev. Ronald Kronk officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 23, 2011 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The family says flowers would be appreciated, however memorials may be made to Fairview Presbyterian Church building fund, or to the Woodlawn and Shiloh United Methodist Church food pantry.
