William "Bill" Turner, 88, of Laurel Fork, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows Nursing Home. Mr. Turner was born in Greensboro, NC to the late William Ratcliff and Edna India Collier Turner. In addition to his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his wife, Edra Hazel Bowman Scott Turner; step son, Ted Wayne Scott; grandson, Gregory Scott Turner; four sisters; and three brothers. Bill is survived by three step-daughters and spouses, Peggy and Steve Bowman of Laurel Fork, Tracy and David Allen of Roanoke, and Donna and Dewey Rowland of Forest; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews. Bill was a WWII veteran and served in the U.S. Army in Tokyo, Japan. He owned and operated Keno Store for several years. His favorite hobbies were fox hunting and Nascar racing. Bill loved the Lord and was a member of Rome Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Terry McMillian, pastor of Rome Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115. Burial will follow in Reed Island Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the V.F.W. Post 1115 P.O. Box 1952, Hillsville, VA 24343 or to Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows 16600 Danville Pike, Laurel Fork, VA 24352.
