William Fountain Smythers, 87 of Austinville, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his home. Mr. Smythers was born in Carroll County to the late Elbert Early and Amanda Landreth Smythers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Verna Audean Smythers; daughter, Audrey Dalton; and granddaughter, Andrea Dalton. Survivors include his children and spouses, James (Butch) and Linda Smythers of Hillsville, Harvey and Carol Smythers of Hillsville, Joye Harmon of Galax, Wayne and Debbie Smythers of Hillsville, Kenneth and Janice Smythers of Austinville, Shirley and Billy Walls of Hillsville, Betty and Robert Austin of Austinville, and Patricia Coulson of Hillsville; special friend and caregiver, Dona Davis; 17 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jackie Delp officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery at Pleasant View Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
