William Curtis Rigney, Jr. 61, of Fancy Gap, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Rigney was born in Carroll County on December 18, 1952. He was preceded in death by his father, William Curtis Tate; sister, Mary Ruth Hiatt; and grandson, Jaxon Rigney. Survivors include his wife, Esther Rigney of the home; sons, Johnny Rigney of Mount Airy, NC, Teddy Rigney of Fancy Gap, and Robert Rigney of Cana; mother, Ruth Robertson of Stuart, VA; brothers, Billy Robertson and Bobby Robertson; half brothers and sisters, Jonah Tate of Elkin, NC, Michael Tate of Dobson, NC, Patty Caudill, Elkin, NC, and Debra Howlett of Elkin, NC; grandchildren, Miranda Lane, Chase Rigney, Wesley Rigney, Austin Kyler Rigney, Madison Jade Rigney, and Kadyn Rayne Rigney; and special friends, Robert and Dorothy Utz. The family would like express a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Rigney Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
