William "Bill"
Rex Lewis
September 15, 1957 – February 18, 2026
William "Bill" Rex Lewis, born on September 15, 1957, in Hillsville, Virginia, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. Bill passed peacefully at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina, on February 18, 2026 with his loved ones by his side. His journey through life was a remarkable tale, filled with resilience, love, and passion.
A passionate soul, Bill dedicated much of his professional life to Philips Corporation, where he served as a Regional Service Manager for South Carolina and Georgia. His role took him on numerous adventures, installing Haas Machines and forging connections wherever he went. Bill's vibrant personality allowed him to make friends with ease, cultivating relationships that spanned across the years. His heart of gold was known to all—he was always ready to help those in need, and many cherished the wonderful stories he shared about his life experiences.
Education was also cherished in his journey; Bill earned an Associate Degree in Machinist Technology at Surry County Community College, laying a foundation that fostered both his career and his personal growth. However, it is the last decade of his life that was etched into his soul—thanks to his cherished reunification with his high school sweetheart, Patsy Belcher Lewis. After many struggles with cancer, which he fought valiantly for years, it was his rekindled love that gave him the strength to strive for more. Friends once thought he would never walk down the aisle, yet their love story defied those expectations, proving that love can indeed be the strongest medicine. He often reflected that the last ten years with Patsy were the best of his life, igniting a love that fanned the flames of his heart and inspired him to embrace life fully once more.
Bill's love for racing was unbridled; it permeated his very being. He started bracket racing in 1975, he found camaraderie and purpose among his fellow racers, with whom he shared countless victories as well as heartfelt moments that transcended the bounds of competition. To Bill, racing was not merely a hobby; it was a way of life that forged familial bonds stronger than many could ever imagine. Bill felt that if you didn't love the smell of racing fuel and burnt rubber you weren't living right!
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Patsy Belcher Lewis, whose presence illuminated his life. Bill is also survived by his dear sister, Sharleen Lewis Sage, and her husband Glen; daughters in his heart, April Rosson and husband Brad, and Amy Robertson; four grandchildren, Brody, Paisley, Hope and Kadynce; his mother-in-law, Minnie Lou Belcher; and sisters-in-law Penny Morrison and husband Rick, Pamela Walton and husband Jerry, and Peggy Rakes and husband Mike; numerous nieces and nephews; further enrich his family tree.
In mourning his passing, we remember the profound impact Bill had on every life he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lucella Lewis, and his grandparents, Rex and Lucy Lewis and Ferd and Ruth Hill, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in the life beyond.
As we bid farewell to Bill, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on our hearts. Godspeed, Bill; you will be missed by so many who were fortunate enough to share in your journey through this world. Your spirit, like the roar of an engine, will reverberate in our memories, forever and always.
