William George Novacek, 80 of Fancy Gap, passed away at home with his wife at his side on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Born in Islip, NY on April 12, 1933, he was the son of the late William Otto Novacek and Elizabeth Newman Novacek. Mr. Novacek worked as an electrical engineer after obtaining his bachelors in electrical engineering and doing post graduate work at Columbia and Harvard. He was a member of the Gladesboro Evangelical Lutheran Church and the proud and loving grandfather of ten grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Novacek of the home; daughters, Nancy L. Rawling and husband Jim of New York, and Jean A. Straussberger and husband Jeff of Tennessee; sons, William E. Novacek and wife Suzanne of New Hampshire and Robert J. Novacek of North Carolina; stepson, William O. McGrady and wife, Barbara; step daughter, Susan M. Hevey and husband Gary; and grandchildren, Stephanie Rawling, Sophia Novacek, Sara Straussberger, Mark Straussberger and wife Lianna, Nickolas and Michael Novacek, and Kelsey, Dylan, Jacob and Zachary McGrady. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Gladesboro Lutheran Church with Pastor Joseph Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
