William J. Guernsey, 96, of Zephyr Hills, Florida died Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, FL. He died peacefully with his daughter, Kathy by his side.

Mr. Guernsey was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 31, 1923, the son of William and Josephine (Hollop) Guernsey. He was a resident of Oswego, New York before moving to Hillsville, VA and then to Zephyr Hills, FL.

He graduated from Oswego High School and then entered military service serving with the United States Navy shortly after graduation. He was stationed in Hawaii during his enlistment.

Mr. Guernsey was a Millwright at Alcan Aluminum Corp. He enjoyed working on all kinds of motors. He also enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, gardening, attending senior dances, his dogs and was also a stocks and bonds enthusiast.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Dorothy J. Hanson; his wife, Francis Pauline Roseberry; son, Joseph J. Guernsey; and grandson, Kevin R. Sheridan.

Mr. Guernsey is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Linda Guernsey of Connecticut; and daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Sam Paura of Oswego, Laurie and Kevin W. Sheridan of Oswego, and Kathy and Paul Eannetta of Florida. In addition, he is survived by his 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Guernsey will be laid to rest in the Felts Cemetery in Galax, VA on January 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM with his wife, Pauline. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115.

Because William loved animals, the family suggest in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any no-kill shelter of your choice or to any Hospice Organization.
