Wendell Wilson Hiatt, 81 of Ararat, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his residence. Mr. Hiatt was born in Carroll County, VA to the late Carnie and Cassie Ayers Hiatt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, David Hiatt; brothers, Albert (Benny) Hiatt, Clifford Hiatt, and Lonnie Gray Hiatt; and sisters, Eva Joy Robertson and Ruby Mae Hunter.
Wendell was a great family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He also had many wonderful friends. Wendell was a great poker player and loved to gamble. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Hiatt of the home; daughters, Karen Crotts (Ronnie) of Elkin, NC, Lisa Lawrence (Freddie) of New York, and Linda Connors (Jimmy) of New Jersey; sons, Marty Hiatt (Liza) of Ararat, Michael Hiatt (Tiffany) of Ararat, Stacy Lucas of New Castle, VA, David Martin (Gail) of Narrows, Brian Martin (Teresa) of Ararat; sisters, Dorothy Wall, Marcia Ayers (Bobby), and Nina Newman all of Cana; brother, Roy Lee Hiatt (Pat); several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and beloved dog, Penny.
A private graveside service with burial will be held at the Hiatt Family Cemetery at a later date with Rev. Timothy Crotts officiating. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
