Waymon A. Banks, 94, of Meadows of Dan died March 16, 2011. He was born in Carroll County on October 3, 1916 to the late Walter and Lila Jessup Banks. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Pauline Banks, four brothers Lonnie, Lloyd, Leonard, and Clayton Banks and a sister Mamie Horton.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was of Primitive Baptist faith. He worked as a building contractor and built many houses in the area. After retiring he enjoyed traveling and wood working building grandfather clocks and other wooden pieces for family and friends.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Judy and Bill Keith of Meadows of Dan, 2 grandsons Kevin Keith and wife Tabitha of Bassett and Todd Keith and wife Jaclyn of Hardy, four great grandchildren Madelyn, Mitchell, Mason, and Emma Keith; 2 sisters Lucille Lewis of Roanoke and Mabel and husband Ned Stanley of Christiana, PA and 2 sisters-in-law Leola Banks of Roanoke and Edith Hutcherson of Danville and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Banks will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Reed Island Springs Baptist Church with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials may be made to Twin County Hospice, P.O. Box 106, Galax, VA 24333.
