Walter K. Smith, Jr., 88, of Hillsville went to be with the Lord September 29, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter K. Smith, Sr. and Elsie Via Smith; two brothers, Gordon Smith and Morgan Smith and sister Kathleen Spicer. Walter served in World War II and retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a charter member of the First Wesleyan Church in Blacksburg before moving his membership to Hillsville First United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of Hillsville Grover King Post 1115 V.F.W. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Smythers Smith, by brother and sister-in-law Dewaine and Joyce Smith of Pilot, VA; two sisters and a brother-in-law Dorothy Cook of Vinton, VA and Joan and Merrill Jackson of Cary, NC; several nieces and nephews and special friends Otis and Blanche Harmon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ty Harrison, Rev. Ronnie Collins, Rev. Charles Smythers and Sandy Sexton officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Vaughan Guynn McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville.
