Obituary

Vivian M. Deal, age 94 of Hillsville, VA passed away peacefully on May 9, 2021, Mother's Day with family at her bedside.  She is in God's holy care now for the fulfillment of life.

Vivian was born on January 30, 1927 to Alice Vieira and Paul Pease.  She was married for 51 years to the late Leonard J. Deal, also of Philadelphia. Her daughter, Vivian D. Deal, and her granddaughter, Kristen Deal also preceded Vivian in death.

She grew up in and around Philadelphia, but after becoming a Navy Wife lived in Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Key West, FL; Green Cove Springs, FL; Dothan, AL and retired in Virginia Beach, VA.   She spent later years in Bluffton, SC and Hillsville, VA.

Married as teenagers during WWII, Nana & PopPop grew up together and were loving parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.  They are survived by their children:  Leonard Joseph Deal, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, RV adventurers; Deborah Whittle, and her husband, Mark of Sparta, NC; and Robert Deal, and his wife, Jenna, of Melbourne, FL.  Their loving grandchildren are:  Teresa Carlson, and her husband, Scott, of Greenville, SC; Pam Lapish, and her husband, Randy, of Salisbury, NC; Erin Marteal, and her husband, Bobby of Ithaca, NY; Chris Whittle, Arlington, VA, Amy Jackson and her husband, Tee, of Galax, VA; Ryan Whittle, of South Korea, and his wife, Francine, of Niceville, FL; Zach Whittle, and his wife, Kate, of Charleston, SC, sisters Rachel and Lauren Deal of Melbourne Beach, FL.  Their great-grandchildren are:  Shane Norman, and his wife, Melissa, of Iowa; Connor, Keaton, and Caroline Carlson of Greenville, SC; Galen and Miles of Ithaca; Bryce and Tucker of Galax; and Rico and JoJo of Niceville, FL.  Shane and Melissa are expecting their first great-great-grandchild in July. She will also be remembered by Linda Young, Joe Kase, her niece and nephew.

Vivian was a survivor; she lived through the Great Depression, WWII, and the many challenges of life as a devout Christian.   Family was always very important to her, even though she had to travel often to see them.  Vivian was a fabulous cook, an excellent seamstress, and a kind-hearted woman.  She was a lifetime member of The Moose Lodge in Virginia Beach and she enjoyed working as a children's department salesclerk at Miller and Rhoads until she retired at age 70.  We are all grateful to have many memories of her to treasure.
