Virgie Alma Barak, 90 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mrs. Barak was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late William Jessie Thomas and Laura Ann Webb Thomas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Barak, Jr.; daughter Dorothy M. Horton; granddaughter Vicki Lynn Ellis; brothers Alvie Thomas and Shirley Thomas; and sister Clyde Alderman. Mrs. Barak is survived by her son & daughter-in-law Kenneth & Sandra J. Thomas of Edgewater, MD; brothers & sisters-in-law Reeford & Peggy Thomas of Hillsville and Ernest & Ruby Thomas of Meadows of Dan; one grandson and spouse Robert Allen Boyer, Jr. & wife Elysa; five great grandchildren Dawn M. Corder, Heather M. Corder, Katie Boyer, Lindsay Torres and Taylor Torres; and special caregivers Margaret Shumate, Florence Goad and Joyce Bowman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chip Neely officiating. Burial will be in the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD on Friday, January 11, 2008. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
