Violet Irene Martin Edwards, of Fancy Gap, born January 9, 1923, expired on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax, VA. Born in Carroll County to the late Rhoda Early Marshall Martin and Raleigh Martin, she was also, preceded in death by her husband, James W. Edwards; one grandson, Bobby Akers; brothers, James, Junior, Edward and Leon; and sisters, Elmira Quesinberry, Hattie Thompson, and Rhoda Cruise. She will be greatly missed by her 11 children and their spouses: Glenn and Barbara Edwards, Iva and James Bolt, Jane and Carl Delp, James R. Edwards, Mary and Tom Fitzpatrick, Kay and George Slate, Pat and Larry Akers, Nancy and Bill Deady, Lewis and Shirley Edwards, Bonnie and Greg Koenig, and Victoria Edwards. Her 26 grandchildren and step-grandchildren and her 39 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren will remember her by the love she had for them and the stories we share with them. She is also survived by 3 brothers and spouses: Bedford and Nora Alice Martin, Fred and Wilma Martin, and L.D. Martin; 2 sisters, Margaret Alderman and Frances Dalton; two brothers-in-law, Dorsey Thompson and Elwood Cruise; two sisters-in-law, Pat Martin and Jessie Hodge; and 37 nieces and nephews that she loved. Family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Gladesboro Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Joseph Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated but donations to Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center or the Alzheimer's Association would be acceptable to the family. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
