Obituary

Vera Bowman Montgomery (79) of Hillsville passed away December 30, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Montgomery was born September 17, 1931 to the late Yancey and Rosa Janie Bowman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bergen Montgomery, her parents and her brother, Edgar Bowman.

Moms life was devoted to the care of her husband and family. She was a lifelong resident of the Groundhog Mountain community and a member of Rome Missionary Baptist Church. She loved working in her flowers, going to the beach and any activity that allowed her to be with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to wrestling, watching movies, playing video games, listening to music, riding 4 wheelers or any activity that let her be with her family. First, foremost and always she loved her family and taking care of her babies!

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by three daughters: Linda (Buck) Dalton of Hillsville; Cindy (Gary) Umberger of Draper; Sandy Montgomery of Hillsville and one son: Johnny ( Marsha Cooper) Montgomery of Cedar Grove,WV.: eight grandchildren: Randy (Dee) Dalton of Hillsville, Cecily (Steve) Simmons of Front Royal,VA, James Dalton, Emily Dalton, Melody (Brandon)Richardson all of Hillsville; Matt (Alisha) Henley of Pulaski, Mark ( Sara Armbrister) Umberger of Max Meadows and Amy Umberger : US Army - Kandahar,Afghanistan and 4 great grandchildren; Dillon Dalton, Hunter Henley, Wyatt Umberger and Ryder Richardson. Also surviving is sister Phyllis (Bill) Crawford - Burlington, NC sisters-in-law Lella Crawford of Goodview, VA and Christine Bowman ofArarat, VA and brother-in-law Carson (Hazel) Montgomery of Baltimore, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Special friend to Mom and our family - Ranelle Dulaney.

Special thanks to Dr. Allan Sklar for his friendship and care for the past 5 years; her dialysis nurses Pat Spear and Heather ONeal and to Montgomery Regional Hospital ICU nurses and physicians who cared for her during her recent hospitalization. Many thanks to everyone for all the prayers! Services will be Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 2PM at Vaughan-Guynn- McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville with burial in the family cemetery. Family night will be Saturday January 1, 2011 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 6 to 8 PM. Although the world has lost a beloved Mother, Grandmother and dear friend the world has also gained another Guardian Angel to watch over and protect us. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
