Obituary

Vency Enos Griffith of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 13th. Born in Patrick Co. Va., he was the son of Lena Robinson and Frank Griffith, one of 20 children. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and pastor who never met a stranger. Mr. Griffith was married for 7 years to Doris Gammons who died unexpectedly in 1952. He is survived by: His wife of 56 years, Edith C. Griffith, of the home; childrenDeborah Carte and son-in-law, William C. Carte, Hillsville, Va; Donna S. Hornsby, Covington, Georgia; Anita Dianne Griffith, Pulaski, Va: Calvin Griffith and daughter-in-law, Sue Griffith, Galax, Va.; Grace Hackney and son-in-law, Anthony Hackney, Bahama, NC; Karen G. Stinson and son-in-law, Mark Stinson, Marriottsville, MD; Ruth G. Dotson and son-in-law, Donald Dotson, Boone, NC; Carol Lena Miller and son-in-law, David Miller of Harrisonburg, Va. 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Griffith is also survived by two brothers: Bethel Griffith, Eden, NC; Merton Griffith, Eden, NC; and one half-brother William Frank Griffith, Jr., Woolwine, VA; 3 half-sisters, Martha Conner, Shirley Martin, and Julia Scott, of Woolwine, VA. Mr. Griffith is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Griffith was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was present at the attack on Pearl Harbor. He participated in 3 major Pacific campaign battles and received numerous medals, including 2 Purple Hearts. After discharge from the service, Mr. Griffith was ordained into the Church of the Brethren in 1955 and served in several different capacities for over 50 years, including pastoring 9 different congregations and touching innumerable lives.

Memorial services will be held at the Coulson Church of the Brethren in Woodlawn, Va. on Sunday, January 16th. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 3:00 p.m., followed immediately by a celebration of life and interment in the Coulson Church of the Brethren cemetery, located on Rt. 620 in Carroll County, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Virlina District Ministerial Leadership Fund (330 Hershberger Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24012) or to Camp Bethel (328 Bethel Rd., Fincastle, Va. 24090). Please designate in memory of Enos Griffith.
