Velma Gaye Parnell, 67 of Austinville, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Twin County Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father Harry Mabe. Mrs. Parnell is survived by her husband Jacob (J.R.) Parnell of the home; daughters & son-in-law Karen & Mike Triplett of Austinville and Lana Kennedy & fianc Jeff Edmonds of Austinville; son Alan Parnell of Austinville; mother Bertha Mabe of Austinville; brothers & sisters-in-law Noel & Elina Mabe of Atlanta, GA, Willard & Priscilla Mabe of Raleigh, NC, and Tommy & Jeanette Mabe of Woodlawn; sisters Wanda Marshall of Woodlawn and Rachel Mabe of Roanoke; four grandchildren & spouse Jennifer & Gary Bowman of Woodlawn, Megan Kennedy of Austinville, Destiny Parnell of Austinville and Tyler Parnell of Deltona, FL; and great grandchild Maddox Bowman of Woodlawn.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Coulson Church of the Brethren with Pastor Russell Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Coulson Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coulson Church on Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Laurel Rescue Squad or to the Coulson Church building Fund.
