Obituary

Titus Beverly Carter, 92, of Austinville, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at his home with his family. Mr. Carter was born in Carroll County to the late William Robert & Leah Artie (Lineberry) Carter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his four brothers Chester, Randolph, Denton and Elgin Carter; three sisters Mable Bryant, Ethel Burnette, and Alma Smith; daughter-in-law Agnes Carter; two grandchildren Diana Lynn Carter and Teresa Holston; and one great-grandchild Joshua Lamar Cox. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Effie Mae (Horton) Carter of the home; daughters & sons-in-law June Burcham of Austinville, Lola & Lake Newman of Woodlawn, Nina Reece of Woodlawn, and Carolyn & Eddie Russell of Galax; sons & daughter-in-law Lester Carter, David & Doris Carter and Chester Carter all of Austinville; fifteen grandchildren & spouses Sharon Reaves of Gray, TN, Rick & Connie Reaves of Johnson City, TN, April & Matthew Surratt of Hillsville, Brian Carter of Austinville, Scott Carter of Austinville, Andrea & Daniel Cox of Hillsville, Sally & Robert Hill of Galax, John & Pam Carter of Austinville, Alison & Trevor Watson of Austinville, Heather & James Lucas of Austinville, Daniel & Angela Carter of Austinville, Michelle & Dennis McMillian of Fancy Gap, Kim & Jimmy Roberts of Galax, Jimmy Russell of Martinsville, and Timmy & Melissa Russell of Fancy Gap; 20 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters & brother-in-law Mary Robinson of Hillsville, Ester Surratt of Anna, Texas, Virginia Vaughn of Laurel Fork and Evelyn & Harrison Frost of Woodlawn; sisters-in-law & spouses Artie Primm, Ruby & Junior Edwards, Elma Jean & Lee Mabe, Faye & Clyde Lineberry and Leona Carter; and brother-in-law & spouse Eugene & Vera Horton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Coulson Church with Pastor Russell Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Coulson Church Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
