Peacefully and while surrounded by loved ones, Thomas Jay Hill, 74, of Hillsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Thomas was born on December 14, 1945 in Darby, Pennsylvania to the late Calvert Allen Hill and Muriel Peckover Hill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Sterling and his brother George "Buzzy" Hill.
Before graduating from Downingtown High School in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, he married his childhood sweetheart. Then joined the Army during the Vietnam War where he received The Army Commendation Medal for heroism. Shortly after graduation he moved his family to Johnstown, New York. He provided for his family working as a plumber and steamfitter for over 40 years. After raising his family, he and his wife moved to Hillsville, Virginia to enjoy retirement upon retiring from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 105.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Sorber Hill of Hillsville, Virginia with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage. In addition, he is survived by a son, John Hill (Sheryl Zelenitsky) of Winnepeg, Canada and three daughters Stacey Brown (Steven) of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, Cheryl Osborne (Dana) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Veronica O'Brien (Royal), of Jacksonville, Florida. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Nastassja Bulger, Erica Park, Zachary O'Brien, Alicia Zelenitsky-Hill, Lauryn Zelenitsky-Hill, Nathaniel Park, Hannah O'Brien and Spencer O'Brien.
Thomas loved all animals especially his beloved Jack Russells. In honor of his love for animals and his dedicated service to our country, the family is asking in lieu of flowers donations be made to local animal shelters or American Veterans Associations.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Virginia at 11:00 am.
