Tex McGrady, 80 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at his home. Mr. McGrady was born in Carroll County to the late Patrick Steve and Martha Susannah McPeak McGrady. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGrady was also preceded in death by his brothers, LeRoy McGrady and Elihu McGrady; and a sister, Rava McGrady Nester.

Mr. McGrady served in the USMC and as a reservist. He was an avid fan of all sports involving Carroll County and Virginia Tech and was a referee for high school sports.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Dawn M. McGrady of the home; daughter, Sharon McGrady Hiatt and husband, Charles of Mount Airy, NC; son, Thomas Owen McGrady of Woodlawn; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Carrington of Hillsville and Odessa and Friel Padgett of Hillsville; brother, Elder Melvin McGrady of Hillsville; and grandchildren, Amber Hiatt of Mount Airy, NC, Austin Hiatt of Cana, and Kade McGrady of Woodlawn.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Elder Melvin McGrady and Elder Michael McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
