Sylvia Quesenberry Simpkins, 89 of Indian Valley, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Simpkins was born in Carroll County to the late Millard & Virgie Odell Quesenberry. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Richard Sumler Simpkins. She is survived by her daughters & son-in-law Pocahontas Schuck of Colonial Beach, VA, Gloria Jean Simpkins of Indian Valley, and Ida & Randall Benton of Derby, Kansas; sons & daughter-in-law Bill & Ann Simpkins of Powhatan, VA and James M. Simpkins of Indian Valley; sisters Otha Mildred Huff of Riner and Virginia Carter of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Vinton Quesenberry and Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
