Sterling "Gene" Eugene Harmon, 86 of Woodlawn, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  Mr. Harmon was born in Carroll County to the late Ransome Ranger and Lossie Lorena Melton Harmon.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Carol Harmon; and siblings, Ethel Hawks, Odessa Peters, Leroy Harmon, and Otis Harmon.

Survivors include his wife, Loree Robinson Harmon of the home; children, Debra Harmon Dabbs of Woodlawn and Doug Harmon (Mary Ann) of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Darien Dabbs of Woodlawn, Matthew Harmon of Winston Salem, and Nathan Harmon of Alabama; siblings, Betty Sue Alley and Wayne Harmon both of Woodlawn; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 30+ years. After his retirement he did various carpentry jobs all over the Carroll County area. He was an active member of the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Woodlawn and served as a deacon there for many years. He also served as treasurer at the Tuesday District Three Senior Citizen group. He enjoyed going to various auction sales around the area and loved talking to people.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Elder Melvin McGrady officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Grayson V.F.W. Post 7726.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.  There will be no friends or food received at the home; however, a private family reception will be held after the service at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church on Mt. Zion Road in Woodlawn.  Those wishing to bring food may drop it off at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
