Skylar Alaina Shaffer, 9 months old of Woodlawn, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at her home. Survivors include her mother, Amber Swinney and father, Michael Shaffer of the home; maternal grandparents, Kevin and Jennifer Swinney of Fries and Rachel and Allan Fleeman of Woodlawn; paternal grandparents, Lisa Brown and husband Wade of Galax and Harvey Shaffer and wife Renae of Low Gap; maternal great grandparents, Bobby and Pam Swinney of Ivanhoe and Judy and Mike Pearman of Galax; paternal great grandparents, Wesley and Marie Fortner of Galax; uncles and aunts, Robbie and Brittany Felts, Stephanie Smith and Thomas Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her paternal great grandparents, Mae and Joe Shaffer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at with Bishop Shad Wheatley, Mr. Wade Whisman, and Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 until 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
