Silas Franklin Matthews, 85

Silas Franklin Frank Matthews, 85, of Fancy Gap passed away April 10, 2011 at the Woltz Hospice Home, Dobson, NC.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1925 in Kipling, NC to Clement Wright and Bettie Corrina Hamilton Matthews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Belle Sapp Matthews. Also preceded in death by his sisters: Carey, Vera, Oma, Irene, Ophelia, Hazel, and Evelyn and by his brothers: Cyrus, Leroy, and Hamilton.

Survivors include his children, a daughter Jane Cagle of Fancy Gap, and a son Silas Franklin Matthews, Jr. & wife Christine of Spring City, TN; four grandchildren Steven Matthews & wife Kristine of Seneca, SC, Jessica Matthews Shuford & husband Scott of Greenville, SC, Allie Labrozzi and Emily Matthews of Spring City, TN; three great grandsons Evan and Benjamin Matthews and Samuel Shuford; and brother Rudolph Matthews & wife Joyce of Broadway, NC. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Blue Ridge Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor David Moore officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Jane Cagle P.O. Box 1524 Hillsville, VA 24343.
