Sidney Smythers, 96 of Woodlawn passed away on Saturday September 3, 2011 at the home of his son. Mr. Smythers was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late James W. & Lela Caudill Smythers. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Jency Smythers. Mr. Smythers is survived by his children & spouses Billy & Grace Smythers, Woodlawn, Bobby & Kay Smythers, La Plata, MD., Venton Nuby & Leona Smythers, Hillsville, Clinton & Maybellene Smythers, Hillsville, brother Garland Smythers, Port Richie, FL, 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Memory Gardens in Galax. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Laurel Rescue Squad 1542 Rescue Road, Austinville, VA. 24312. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
