Sibyl Gertrude McGrady Bond, 90 of Galax, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at her home. Mrs. Bond was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late George and Sibyl Sumner McGrady. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John T. Bond; and brothers, G. Marcus McGrady and Arthur C. McGrady.
Survivors include her daughter, Colonel Lori M. Walden, USAF (ret) and Chuck of Mineral Bluff, GA; stepson, Rodney K. Bond (Tina) of Pilot Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Ashleigh W. Harper (Cameron) of Blairsville, GA, Christopher H. Walden (Shelby) of Athens, GA, Brett P. Bond of Richlands, NC and Clay T. Bond of Pilot Mountain, NC; great-grandchild, Jaxon H. Harper; siblings, Alice N. Perry of Hillsville, VA, Etta M. Walker of Charlotte Courthouse, VA and Leslie K. McGrady (Kathy) of Hillsville, VA; sister-in-law, Helen McGrady of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; and special companion, Ralph N. Jones of Galax.
Sibyl had a long, full life. She was a great cook and made sure to feed you if you stopped by. She also loved making apple butter, pepper relish, and fruit cakes - and if you walked into her house, chances are you left with one, if not all. She enjoyed cross-word puzzles and card games, but what gave her the most joy were her grandkids and great grandchild, Jaxon. She enjoyed her last meal (ice cream) with Jax just a few days before she passed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville at 11:00 AM with Pastor Myron Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bishops Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 4:00 until 6:00 PM.
