Shirley Akers Driver , 58, of Hillsville, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Shirley was born in Galax on May 20, 1957. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wesley Akers and her husband, Roger Driver.

She is survived by her son, Kelly John Driver of Hillsville; mother, Frances Brooks Akers; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Betty Akers of Galax; sisters and brother-in-law, Sheila and Wayne Hanks and Sharlene Akers Powell all of Hillsville; brother-in-law and spouse, Frankie and Joyce Driver of Galax; sisters-in-law and spouses, Carol and Bill Whitaker and Susie and Jr. McFarland all of Galax; several nieces and nephews; two great nephews; two great nieces; special friends, Angie Lineberry, Troy Parnell and many others.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Galax First Assembly of God on Deer Haven Road in Galax at 12:00 P.M. with Pastors Cas Horton, Rodney Christman, and Angie Lineberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Galax First Assembly of God on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for burial assistance. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
