Shirley Jean Barnard, 86 of Laurel Fork, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. Mrs. Barnard was born in Hillsville, VA to the late Paul and Mellie Woods Edwards.

Shirley was a long-time member of Tory Creek Missionary Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Blaine Barnard; brother, Ivan and Joyce Edwards; nephews Terry and Tammy Edwards, David and Kim Edwards, and Alan Edwards; niece, Rhonda and Stephen Turner; great- nephews, Cody Edwards and Collin Edwards; great-nieces, Kara Edwards, Sarah Turner, and Courtney Edwards; and many special friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Barnard Cemetery on Hurricane Ridge Road in Floyd County, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Shirley to Mountain Valley Hospice 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
