Shaffer O. Simpkins, 85 of Indian Valley, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Simpkins was born in Carroll County to the late James Madison & Ida Phillips Simpkins. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son John Madison Simpkins. Mr. Simpkins is survived by his wife Hestel D. Simpkins of the home; sons & daughters-in-law Charles G. Simpkins & Lisa Smith of Indian Valley and Tom & Sally Simpkins of Snowville; eight grandchildren C. Gabriel Simpkins, Vali Simpkins, Steven Smith, Thomas Shaffer Simpkins, Joshua J. Simpkins, Jonathan I. Simpkins, Mark Simpkins, and Nathan Simpkins; and three great grandchildren Emma Simpkins, Sophia Simpkins, and Austin White.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Simpkins Family Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
