Sarah Alene Smythers, 65, of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Smythers was born in Carroll County to the late William Lee and Ila Frances Burnett Tate. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, George Edmond Tate; and two sisters, Edith Tate Knight and Dorothy Tate Bowling. Survivors include her husband, Duane R. Smythers of the home; daughter, Pamela Smythers Larrowe of Woodlawn; son, Jeffrey Duane Smythers of Charleston, SC; brother, Bill Tate of Hillsville; sister, Joyce Gay Tate of Hillsville; and grandchildren, Adam Nelson Larrowe and Amanda Grace Larrowe. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ray Bolen and Rev. Rich Mullin officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
