Obituary

Sarah Frances Howlett Webb of Fancy Gap, Virginia, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the age of 97.

She was born in Hillsville, Virginia, April 7, 1927. She attended Hillsville High School until the age of 17. During World War II she worked as a certified welder at Richmond Engineering plant in Richmond, Virginia. In 1945 she married Herman Webb. Together they raised five children in Fancy Gap, Virginia. Sarah worked at Fancy Gap Elementary school until retirement. She was a member of Sky View Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended as long as she was physically able. Sarah loved her country, never missing an election and she worked many years at the polls. She believed that exercising your civic duty was of the utmost importance.

Sarah's hobbies included reading her Bible, taking pictures, sewing, collecting dolls and being the world's best grandmother. Her passion was spreading the love of Jesus, ministering to anyone who would listen about the good news of God's love, grace, and the price He paid for our sins. Her goal as a mother and grandmother was to make sure her family would be together in Heaven one day. She was an exemplary Christian, the type we should all strive to be.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Kenneth Sumner, Dana and Billy Melton, and Anita and Steve Helton; daughter-in-law, Wanda B. Webb; grandchildren, Mark Stout, Cindy Stout, Andrew Webb, Kelly Burchette, Daniel Webb, Leigh Anne Kyle, Elizabeth Webb, Deana Burcham, Samantha Dolinger and Isaac Sumner; sister, Shirley Howlett Hill; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and several special bonus grandchildren.

Sarah is preceded in death by her father, Walter Green Howlett; mother, Sarah "Sadie" Glidewell Howlett; husband of almost 54 years, Herman Webb; only son, Ronald Webb; daughter, Sarah "Sue" Stout; sons-in-law, Donald Turman and John Stout; and 12 brothers and sisters.
