Sarah Newton Tull Darnell, 83 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Commonwealth Senior Living. Mrs. Darnell was born in Maryland to the late Edmond and Nina Nicholson Tull. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Darnell.

Survivors include her sons, Randy Ward (Jaclyn) of Hillsville and Russell Ward of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Charles Tull (Bonnie) of Roanoke and John Tull (Lynne) of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Kara Robertson (Reid) of Goode, VA, Miranda Ward of Forest, VA, Cody Ward of Charlotte, NC and Kelsey Ward of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Christian Robertson and Liam Robertson; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Hillsville with Pastor Zeb Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the memorial service. Inurnment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte at a later date. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
