Sanders J. Russell of Hillsville, VA, by far the greatest son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, ever, went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2007. Mr. Russell passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his very special Granny Russell; his mother Nora Lucretia (Doll) Smith; a brother Gene Russell; a sister, Bonnie Lou Bobbitt; and a great-granddaughter Savannah Sloan Schaeffer.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 52 years, Nellie Jackson Russell; three daughters Cassandra Russell, Angie Edwards and Melody R. Schaeffer of Hillsville; two sisters, Linda Lee Smith and Betty Ann Smith; his step-father, Charlie Smith; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Russell proudly served his country as a veteran in the United States Air Force and he lovingly served the people of Hillsville and Carroll County as a volunteer rescue squad member. He was a lifetime member of the Hillsville, Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was the owner and operator of Triangle Discount Furniture for over 30 years. Mr. Russell always put the needs and wants of many people above his own. He was one of the kindest, most loving, giving persons his family and friends ever met. He is and always will be sadly, but fondly missed by all who knew him. He will be missed most by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he worshipped.

There will be no public services.
