Samuel Jefferson (Sam) Fields, 72, of Hillsville, passed away at his home on Monday, September 05, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chancy Byron and Eva Leah Hodges Fields.

Mr. Fields is survived by his wife, Rosa Fields of the home; daughter and son in-law, Cynthia and James Shockley of Hillsville; brother and sister in-law, Thomas and Carolyn Fields of Columbia, SC; sister and brother in-law, Mary and Jack Bartlett of Salem, VA; three grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Katie Shockley, Isaac and Shannan Shockley, and Sheena and Ray Martin; seven great grandchildren, Kaylee Manuel, Maggie Shockley, Isabelle Shockley, Olivia Shockley, Alexis Shockley, Rush Martin, and Elijah Shockley.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Hillsville with Pastor Michael Shockley, and Dr. Lawrence Childs officiating. Eastern Star services will be conducted by Eastern Star Chapter # 71. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Masonic Lodge 193 AF & AM. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Hillsville. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
