Mr. Samuel John Cox, 88 of Durham, NC, died Saturday evening; May 31, 2008 at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. He was born in Floyd County, VA, the son of the late Samuel John Cox, Sr. and Nancy Alderman Cox.

Mr. Cox was a retired carpenter and a member of Berea Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather Papa, son, brother and friend to all.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cosby Nester Cox; and his two sons, Larry W. Cox and his wife Sissy of Hillsborough, NC, and Howard L. Cox, and wife Shirley of Ormond Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Tyler Cox, Christopher Cox, Candy Howland and Penny Wolfe; two great grandchildren Justin Wolfe and Crystal Wolfe; three sisters, Edith Spence and Hallie Stanley of Dugspur, VA, Irene Cock of Laurel Fork, VA; three brothers Profit Cox of St. Louis, MS, George Joe W. Cox of Laurel Fork, and Laurence Cox, of Banning, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Jay Fogleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Nester Cemetery in Laurel Fork, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
