Ruth Hill Weddle, age 100, of Salem, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. She is predeceased by her parents Sam and Emma Weddle and brothers Robert and Burton Weddle. She is survived by her brother James Weddle of the home, by her niece Patsy Julian and her family Tommy and wife Shelia Grisso and their two daughters Olivia and Macey Grisso all of Vinton. Also surviving are Ruth's nephew Sam Weddle and Stephanie Zavar of Wilmington, NC and nephew Bruce Weddle and wife Carly of Jacksonville, FL, and numerous cousins. Special thanks go to caretakers Becky Spradling of Roanoke and Kate Lew of Vinton. Ruth was a long-time second grade teacher in the public schools of Virginia and Maryland. She was an undergraduate of Harrisonburg Teachers College (now called James Madison University) and of Columbia University in New York where she obtained her master's degree. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Renovation Fund Green Memorial United Methodist Church, 2nd St. at Church Ave., Box 1305 Roanoke, VA 24007. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 12:00 until 12:45 PM. Burial will follow with a graveside service at the family plot in the North End Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
