Ruth Ann Thacker Smith, 53, of Hillsville, passed away on December 9, 2014 at her home. Ms. Smith was born in Norton, Virginia to the late J.C. and Betty Jean Short Thacker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, John Carol Thacker; and niece, Amanda Jean Starks Richardson. Survivors include her son, Eric Scott Smith; fiancé, Jonathan Toby Taylor; brothers and sisters-in-law, James McKenny and Reece Sargent and Jackie Lynn and Kathy Thacker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Sue Thacker and Rusty Cox, and Dovie Lee Thacker and Kirk Hall; three nephews, Remington, Danilee, and Robie; five nieces, Rebecca Sue, Stephanie Ann Robinson, Jennifer Diane Hall, Kathleen Nacole Hall, and Haileee Ann Thacker; seven great nephews, Bronson, Kain, Trevor, Alex and Davion, Brayden, Jerico and three great nieces, Camryon, Lexie, and Aramana. A graveside service with burial following will be held in the Hufford Cemetery on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM. There will be no visitation. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
