Obituary for Ruth Quesenberry Slusher Proverbs 31: 38 "Her children arise up and call her blessed" Following a lengthy illness, Mrs. Ruth Quesenberry Slusher of Hillsville, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning, May 6, 2013 at Heritage Hall-Laurel Meadows, Laurel Fork, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Price Slusher; their infant son, Donald Sherrell Slusher; and very special grandson, Jordan Daniel Slusher. She is survived by four sons, Donnie Slusher and wife, Nancy of Bedford, VA; Tommy and Joyce Slusher of Hillsville, VA; Rickey Slusher and fiancee, Kim Reece of Hillsville, VA; and Randall Slusher and wife, Melissa, of Gastonia, NC; and a brother, Kenneth Quesenberry and wife, Louise, of Dugspur, VA. As a loving grandmother, she is also survived by four grandchildren and their families, Jennifer, Steve, Emily and Abbie Krantz; Douglas, Beth, Malachi, and Serenity Slusher; Jessica and Ashton Adkins; and Ashley, Steven and Danielle Devers. Mrs. Slusher was born on September 28, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Herman and Larmie Thompson Quesenberry. She grew up in the Dugspur community of Carroll County. She met her husband in 1943 and they were married by Rev. Abe Hylton in Floyd County, Va on April 28, 1945. She became a Christian on Sept 10, 1950 and was a faithful member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and served the congregation as the wife of a deacon. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of the Carroll County Camp of The Gideons International. After raising her children as a dedicated stay at home mother, she entered into the business world as an independent career woman in 1980. She successfully established and operated her own retail store, Slusher's Clothing Outlet, until her retirement in April of 2007. A memorial service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held on Friday evening, May 10, 2013 at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Chapel in Hillsville, VA. Officiating her service will be Rev. S. G. Bolt, Rev. Elmon Thompson, and Rev. Allen Thompson with special music by Mr. Don Shire. The visitation will begin at 5:00 pm followed by the memorial service at 7:00 pm. Her burial will be on Saturday morning, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Green Hill Cemetery in Dugspur, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution may be made to The Gideons International c/o Memorial Bible Secretary, 2090 Fancy Gap Highway, Hillsville, Va 24343.
