Ruth Stockner Banks, 89, of Hillsville, VA passed away at her home in the Snake Creek Community of Carroll County on January 23, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Marie Stockner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Banks; granddaughter, Staci Banks Wertman; brothers, Edward Stockner, C.B. Stockner and Bobby Stockner.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Barnett Beamer of Salem, VA; sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie Ray and Linda Banks, and Larry Joe and Janet Banks all of Hillsville; sisters, Wilma Caudill of Galax, VA, Jean Bowman of Cana, VA, and Nita Martin of Fancy Gap, VA; brother, Isaac Stockner of Fancy Gap, VA; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Ruth has spent her entire life being a devoted wife, a loving and supportive mother and grandmother while living and working on the family farm.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Bobby Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Heath Banks Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Round Knob Missionary Baptist Church building fund, 2164 Greenberry Road, Fancy Gap, VA 24328 or to the Heath Banks Cemetery care of Earlene Webb, 950 Windy Ridge Road, Fancy Gap, VA 24328. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Galax Twin County Hospice. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
