Rev. Rush Arvies Utt, 84 of Hillsville, passed away on Friday, April 08, 2011 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Born in Carroll County to the late Ellis & Lucy Midkiff Utt, Mr. Utt was often seen preaching from the courthouse lawn in Hillsville. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister Hazel Linebeck and brothers Ray Utt, Wise Utt, Earl Utt, Junior Utt, Alva Utt, and Bill Utt.

Survivors include his wife Ila Faye Utt of the home; sons & daughter-in-law Leonard A. & Janice Utt of Norfolk, VA and Arlie C. Utt of Walkertown, NC; brother & sister-in-law Reaford & Myrtle Utt of Fancy Gap; sisters Clarie Davis of Hillsville and Georgia Haynes of Manasses, VA; three grandchildren Jennifer Shoemaker & husband Jaime of Norfolk, VA, Gabrielle Jacobson of Michigan, and Joshua Utt of Virginia Beach; and three great grandchildren Andrew Shoemaker, Matthew Shoemaker, and Amanda Shoemaker. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Neil Eidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from six until eight. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
