Rufus Howard Nester, 92, of Dugspur, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2007 in the New River Valley Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1914 to the late Henry Taylor Nester and Rebecca Dickerson Nester. He was preceded in death by his wife Mazzie Garnetta Nester; grandson Michael Dean Nester and several other family members.

He is survived by his two daughters & sons-in-law Vada & Elwood Nester of Morristown, TN and Delores & Clarence Smith of Radford, VA; two grandsons and their wives, Keven & Freda Nester of Morristown, TN and Anthony & Mary Smith of Radford; and granddaughter-in-law Sharon Nester of Newnan, GA; He also has two great granddaughters Rebekah and Rachael Nester and two great grandsons Eric Nester and Beckett Smith that he cherished; a sister-in-law Hazel Nester of Hillsville and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with burial following will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Gardner Memorial Cemetery in Hillsville, VA with Rev. Norman Goad officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville.
