Rufus E. Ayers, 88 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Ayers was born in Carroll County to the late Mr. & Mrs. William Norman Ayers. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Irene Ayers. Mr. Ayers is survived by his children & spouses, Elaine & Larry Galyean, Low Gap, NC, Mason & Margaret Ayers, Fancy Gap, Shirley & Debbie Ayers, Woodlawn, Larry & Wanda Ayers, Fancy Gap, Ronnie & Sandy Ayers, Laurel Fork, sisters & spouse Hallie & Keith Prillaman, Bassett, Lina Crotts, Cana, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Skyview Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wendell Horton, & Rev. R.G. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, September 4, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
