Obituary

Roy Glenn Turman passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at his home in Meadows of Dan, Virginia with his wife by his side on October 29, 2015 at the age of 65. Roy is survived by his wife and best friend Judy Branscome Turman. Three daughters Annette T. Turner (David) of Williamsburg, VA; April Turman Bowman of Meadows of Dan, VA; and Audra L. Jeppson (Levi) of Meadows of Dan, VA; And son Samuel Roy Turman (Katy) of Ball Ground, GA; Thirteen grandchildren, Joel D. Turner, Yonas M. Jeppson, Ethan S. Turner, Ruby S. Jeppson, Lillian L. Turner, Garrett C. Bowman, Silas Y. Jeppson, Nolan T. Jeppson, Wyatt C. Bowman, Lettie C. Jeppson, Elliott C. Bowman, Jovie L. Jeppson, and Callie S. Jeppson. And siblings G. Douglas Turman (Becky) of Meadows of Dan, VA; Gwendola Tilley of Las Lunas, NM; Raiford G. Turman (Evelyn) of Meadows of Dan, VA; Julian G. Turman (Pearl) of Vesta, VA; and Gonzalee Proffitt (James) of Rockville, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents Golden and Lillian (Epperson) Turman of Meadows of Dan, VA; and siblings-in-law Janelda H. Turman and Garland P. Tilley. Roy worked for Henry S. Branscome Inc. for 35 years and retired as CEO, proudly building interstate highways up and down the east coast of Virginia. He served as President of the VRTBA (Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association) in 1996. He served with honor in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of two bronze stars, one for valor. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served the church diligently in various leadership capacities. Roy loved farming, fencing, fishing, and saving unsalvageable barns. He loved his land. He loved his cows. But mostly, He loved his family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1035 North Main Street, Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00, prior to the funeral services. Services will also be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Nelsen Funeral Home at 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow in the Williamsburg Memorial Park. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family locally and Nelsen Funeral Home is serving the family in Williamsburg.
