Roy Lee
Stone
December 6, 1929 – October 1, 2021
Roy Stone, 91, of Cana, VA passed away on Friday, October 1 st , 2021, at home surrounded by family.
He and his twin brother were born in Shorts Creek, VA on December 6, 1929, to parents Dexter and Willie Stone.
He joined the navy at the young age of 18, where he got his GED and traveled the world. During his time in the service, he had three world tours, crossing the equator three times: once at the 0 latitude and 0 longitude (a very rare event). He retired from the Navy after 30 years of service; 20 active and 10 in the reserves. He returned to college and had two years under his belt.
He married Martha, the love of his life in 1950 and were married for 71 years…or as Roy would say, "71 years of captivity and serving life". He loved God, Family and Country! He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all that knew him.
He was very witty and had a great sense of humor. He could tell a joke better than most.
He loved football, baseball, little league, raising beagles, hunting rabbits and especially biscuits and gravy. He was very patriotic and proud of his time in the service.
He was loved deeply and will be missed beyond measure.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Martha Stone and his children Teresa Leonard, Darlene S. & Joe Ardito, April Lynn DeHart and Jody & Stephanie Stone. He had nine grandchildren: Angie, Philip, Christy, Misty, Nikki, Travis, Brittany, Nicholas and Skyler, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Preceded in death by daughter Loretta, father Dexter, mother Willie, great-granddaughter Miranda, brothers Harry, Garnett, Carl, Harvey, Carson & Ray and sisters Bess, Irene, Sadie, Retha, Lennie May and Annie.
