Obituary

Roy L. Smith, born October 11, 1950 to Roy J. & Bevalon J. (Wilkerson) Smith, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at his residence in Fancy Gap, VA. Mr. Smith lived in Indianapolis all his life except for the last two months when he moved to Fancy Gap. Roy married Melissa A. (Jones) Smith on May 26, 1978. He was a cabinet maker and an embalmer for Shirley Brothers and Ushers Funeral Homes for many years. He had worked for Simms Cabinet Company in Indianapolis and Cunninghams in Indianapolis. Roy was a 1969 graduate of Pike High School and went to Indiana Mortuary School. He coached Pike Youth Girls Softball several years and he coached Pike High School Summer League Girls Softball for 4 years. Roy was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife Melissa A. (Jones) Smith of Fancy Gap, VA; daughters Lee Ann Smith of Indianapolis and Trisha June (Smith) Gentry & husband Bradley Gentry of Fancy Gap, VA; grandson Talan J. Gentry and step-granddaughters McKayla M. Gentry and Abigail A. Gentry; and brother Frank Smith and his wife Cindy of Danville, IN.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Neil Eidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday night at the funeral home.
