Roscoe "John"
Johnson Burcham
February 28, 1949 – April 29, 2023
Roscoe Johnson "John" Burcham Jr., 74, of Hillsville, VA, passed away on April 29th, 2023, at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax, VA.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Ethel Burcham, and two grandsons, Joshua Burcham, and Nathan Burcham.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Linda Burcham; two sons Michael (Kimberly) Burcham, and Jason (Nicole) Burcham; three grandchildren, Justin (Sierra) Burcham, Tiffany (Steve) Lay, and Isaac Burcham; four great-grandchildren; and one sister Gin (Joey) Burris.
John spent most of his working years as a diesel mechanic. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing golf. Some of his fondest memories were of fishing trips to Holden Beach with friends and family.
John loved his church family, and spent most of his later years working at the Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He considered his later years as "working for the Lord", and found his joy in helping with any and all projects at his church. Devoted friend and helper, John was always willing to lend a hand to help anyone in any way possible.
John had a servant's heart for his church and his community. He loved Jesus and wanted to show this love through his actions. He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather, a tireless worker, and a man loved by many in his community.
John fought a long battle with cancer, and fought it with strength. He was never discouraged through it all, always knowing he would be healed. He would tell everyone he could, "God's got this!"
He always knew he was in God's hands, and now we rejoice knowing he truly is. John believed he would be healed, now he is. There is no cancer, there is no pain, and finally, John is free.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5th, at Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. The family will receive friends at 5pm, with a service to follow at 6pm, officiated by Pastor Jeff Pickett. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
