Roger Lee Carpenter, Sr. 63, of Hillsville, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents James Wesley and Elizabeth Williams. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his children Roger Lee Carpenter, Jr. and fiancé Angie Wyatt of Galax, Melissa Tatro and Jeremy Bowman of Ararat, VA, Rebecca and Rex Bowers of Ivanhoe, and Mary Ellen Carpenter and fiancé Jason Armstrong of Ivanhoe; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Anna Bell Primm of Hillsville; sisters and brother-in-law June and Elmo Nester of Austinville and Shirley Turner of Hillsville; special friend Doris Hall; eight grandsons and four granddaughters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Billy Dean and Mr. Richard Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Parnell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
