Robert A. Akers, 35 of Virginia Beach, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009. Robert was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church. He was a heating and air conditioning technician and loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Robert is survived by his parents, Larry & Pat Akers; a brother, Scott Akers & wife Julie and their children, Joshua and Jessica; paternal grandmother, Rhea Akers of Hillsville; maternal grandmother, Violet Edwards of Gladesboro; and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives who loved him. He was predeceased by his two grandfathers, James W. Edwards and Rush L. Akers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Haygood United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Shumate officiating with visitation one hour prior. Robert will be transferred from Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville for a funeral service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Gladesboro Lutheran Church with Pastor Duane Steele officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
