Rickey Eugene
Goad
August 12, 1957 – July 31, 2022
Rickey Eugene Goad of Hillsville, VA passed away Sunday morning July 31, 2022 at the age of 64.
Rickey was born August 12, 1957 to the late Shirley Redd Jennings and Patrick Eugene Goad. He happily spent his entire life living in the same spot right there on Hardscuffle Road. Rickey was a man of great work ethic. Working night shift for almost 40 years, to provide for his wife, Lisa and daughter, Sheena.
Rickey was a man full of dad jokes and rhyming poetics. He was also a wealth of knowledge when it came to sports and music trivia of the 1970s and 1980s. UVA and Carroll County athletics both provided many years of frustration and joy as he watched his beloved Cavaliers (both high school and collegiate) compete in many different sports.
In 2011 his favorite basketball player was born, his grandson, Harris Gage Patterson. Many late nights were had between the two of them watching basketball games and talking sports statistics.
In 2016, his favorite softball player was born, his granddaughter, Ruby-James Shirley Patterson. The two of them had a special bond that only a granddaughter and a papa could have.
Rickey is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Shirley and Harrison Jennings. Surviving Rickey in his passing are his wife of 37 years, Lisa; his daughter and son-in-law Sheena and Jonathan Patterson; two grandchildren Harris and Ruby-James Patterson. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his Aunt Geneva Goad and Uncle and Aunt Bobby and Cecilia Redd, several nieces and nephews and two special cousins Brenda Jones (Rick) and Jeff Kemp.
The family is forever grateful for the Emergency General Surgical Services Team at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Lauren Dunn, RN of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and Twin County Regional Hospital.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Hillsville Pentecostal Church with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. Family will receive guests from 1-2pm and the celebration of life ceremony will begin at 2pm.
