Obituary

Reva Faye Hawks, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died peacefully on Jan 13, 2020 following cardiac complications. She was surrounded by her loving family.   Born in Carroll County on June 14, 1933, Reva was the oldest child of Ocie and Roosevelt Puckett. She graduated from Hillsville High School where she was salutatorian. She attended Radford College and, after receiving her teaching certificate, taught at Vincent Elementary School in Carroll County. She often shared funny memories of her rambunctious students in the two-room schoolhouse. Reva was employed at Hiden Storage and Forwarding Company in Newport News and in the Zoning Department for the City of Hampton. Reva married Foy Owen Hawks in 1953. They lived in Hampton and raised 4 daughters. Reva was a faithful member of West Hampton Baptist Church where she took her daughters every Sunday.   In 1990, Reva and Foy returned to Laurel Fork and spent the last years of their lives enjoying family, friends, church and their cozy country home. After Foy passed in 2012, Reva was cared for by several loving neighbors, brother, Les and sister-in-law Becky, and nieces and nephew. In the last year of her life, she lived with her loving daughter Judy and son-in law John who provided unparalleled love and attention. Judy's sisters will always be grateful to them for this care.

Reva was an avid reader and a skilled writer. She was an active and long-time member of Rome Baptist church where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed the company of her church family. She was a devout Christian who based her life on the principles of her faith.

Reva is preceded in death by her parents, Ocie and Roosevelt Puckett; husband Foy Owen Hawks; sister, Iva Lee Walston; nephews, Ronnie and Kevin Puckett; and niece, Pat Walston.

She leaves behind her brother, Leslie R. Puckett and his wife Becky; four daughters, Brenda Hawks and her husband John; Judy Hawks and her husband John, Janet Schy and her husband Joe, Bobbi Albright and fiancée Alex; grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Julia, Joshua, Hayden, Hannah, Lindsay, Brooke; and great grandchildren, Bailey, Maddie, Ashton; and her niece, Neda Baxter.
